mike & becky ( teaser )

I realized how truly cruel I was last week when after Mike & Becky's wedding I posted but a single photo. I posted that one because I was so proud of it, but in my excitement neglected to realize that they might like a few more. Have a looksee

And of course that original one...

Mike & Becky - a day at the beach

Many of you will have already seen this on my facebook fan page, but for those of you who haven't, here's a shot I'm super proud of from Mike & Becky's big day on Saturday. This was taken down at Island View Beach.

Canon 5D Mark II, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 @ f/1.4, ISO 1600 @ 1/160 sec. Flashes behind and above right of subjects triggered via radiopoppers.

rachel & lewis - teaser

Last week I had the opportunity to go out with Rachel and Lewis during some of the most gorgeous natural light I've shot in. Caddy Bay beach is a favourite for them and their dog, and that was just fine by me. Here's a few

kim & dave's engagement

When you run your own business, it's always funny to discover the vague connections that bring people to your door. Kim contacted me because she knew my wife Mandy back in High School, I think they did drama together. I had the privelege of going out with her and her fiance dave during a beautiful stretch of weather in May, Kim is fun and sweet, and Dave is just a super easy going, super friendly guy, and I can tell the wedding is going to be a fun one this summer. Now, being that Kim went to high school with Mandy, that means her and Dave live on the mainland, so I picked them up from the ferries with my buddy Brian Van Wyk in tow, and we spent some time at Elk Lake, then a small park that Brian and I discovered on Google Maps that sits just off Finlayson street, and has some of the most beautiful Vancouver Island Garry Oaks that I've seen. Here's a look

nathan & amelia's engagement

Another strange circumstance of posting an engagement session after the wedding has happened, but such has been the schedule of this summer! Probably largely due to the nasty spring we had and the lack of desire from many ( myself included ) to work in the cold and wet weather we were dealing with. I have to premise this post with a mention of how we ended up in this location. I've driven by the particular tree that we used for the shot at the end of this shoot hundreds of times over the years, and always thought it would make a stellar backdrop for some photos. Little did I know that there's actually a gate in the barbed wire fence in front of it that allows public access, yipee! So despite a dreary and cloudy Victoria evening, Mandy and I headed out with Nathan and Amelia to this field across from Victoria General Hospital for some laughs, some romance, and some "faux" sunshine, as you may notice if you look closely ;) Yet another example of a time when knowing how to use your flashes, even in daylight, can really add some life to your photos.

Ben & Tonya's engagement at Beacon Hill

You don't typically see me posting engagement photos of a couple after their wedding has happened, but with the way it all worked out, it was just fine with Ben & Tonya. Oh don't fret, we did the shoot before their wedding, but by less than 2 weeks. Cool thing was, even prior to the engagement shoot I had already had the privelege of joining these two wonderful people for dinner and I knew the engagement and wedding were going to be a cakewalk, it was like I had known them for years. Here's a few from the engagement session at Beacon Hill Park

A little Bubble Tape anyone?

Since they had already climbed a tree, it was my turn

Wedding pics to come in a couple weeks!
